The only thing to fear is fear itself, right? I've heard it a million times, that all there is to fear is fear. So, I gotta ask, then why are people so afraid? If all we really have to be afraid of is fear, than what exactly is fear?
The dictionary definition is : "An unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that something or someone is dangerous."
Well, then. Just an 'unpleasant' feeling, nothing too bad. Sure. Well I think that people often times take the most innocent of things and twist them into something dangerous, thus causing fears. But then why do people seem to be attracted to the things that really are fearsome? It can't all be about adrenaline. What I find most interesting is that people seem to take the real scary stuff and aren't afraid, they don't fear what they should.
Is that what's wrong with us? We're too powered by our wanting a thrill that we don't step back and think Huh, jumping off a perfectly fine airplane, with just some fabric to prevent my death. Ha, no biggie. Yet, when you place a snake, a harmless gardener, they freak out. Don't get me wrong, I'm probably the last person to talk about this, but I just don't get it.
To be honest I am scared to death of driving, it's so dangerous yet its a daily activity in our lives. So I really don't get how people, knowing how dangerous it is to drive, still goof around behind the wheel. I don't get how people can go jump out of planes and yet are scared of snakes.
I guess I just don't get fear, but really all I want to know is what is fear?
